Edited 5 years agomc shy d used to love it back in the day "gotta be tough" and i don`t want to diss coz i did love this BUT! "at the age of one my life begun my mama chased me with a big old gun" must have been a real bad kid by the age of six he stole a mercedez yeah right, I counted how many times they mention "shy d" in all forms through the album (35) dj man (30) as well as various references to run dmc and using their lyrics (tougher than leather...in any kind of weather) but it did sound FRESH ......in 1987.

Edited 12 years agoStraight raw old skool hip hop. Bought this at the time of release and I totally digged the album. I never played a rap record as much as this one.
Simple drums every song but very clever use of samples and scratches not to mention the great lyrics. In my opinion MC Shy D has got one of the best rap voices in the industry. Highlights are: Gotta Be Tough, DJ Man Cuts It Up, Bust This, Paula's On Crack & I Will Go Off.
MC Shy D's following up album is standing in the shadow of this one. If you like straight old skool hip hip you don't want to miss out on this album.
