Shipping Policy and Procedure Summary:

I am taking the time to write this comprehensive shipping policy. I hope this will give buyers an insight into the complexities and true costs of selling records on Discogs via Paypal and will result in genuine offers from informed buyers. Thus avoiding any issues.

Before placing an order or making an offer, please ensure you read all of my shipping policy. Please me in the first instance via Discogs with your full details including email address, postal address and the list of items you wish to purchase. NB No returns as they are not practical, particularly for overseas customers where the expensive postage costs (with insurance cover etc) prohibit this, not to mention the increased potential for damage etc render them infeasible. Instead, I will photograph the item(s) in detail to ensure the customer is happy with their condition before they place an order. NB Items/records are sold as seen in the photos. Unfortunately, I cannot attach photographs on Discogs messaging, so this is why I require your email address. Please ensure that you check the details thoroughly with me if you are looking for a specific release, runout, attribute or feature. The onus is on you to clearly specify what attributes of a particular release you are looking for.

Please note that from the 1st November 2020, Discogs made shipping policies mandatory. Consequently, I redefined my shipping policies accordingly. It is by no means a perfect system/solution. Please bear with me and be flexible as the system is not ideal/flexible. Hopefully, we can easily resolve any issues and my shipping policies will refine as they evolve. The first thing to say is that I have made shipping free for orders totalling £250 or more. Consequently, it is worth considering whether it is worth your while buying additional items from my Discogs shop to get free postage. However, if a buyer purchases a large number of records and the postage costs are uneconomic, I reserve the right to reject the order.

My shipping may seem expensive on first inspection but it includes a lot. My preferred method of protection for records in transit is to employ a made to measure, cut wooden square stiffener for greater protection - photos available. I have various sizes of plywood squares/stiffeners cut to slightly larger than a 7 inch single, LP or 12 inch single dimensions.

The shipping charge includes the cost of bubble-wrap, cardboard, masking tape, packaging tape and 'Fragile' tape etc as well as the paper and ink for customs forms etc. The additional weight of the plywood also adds to the cost of the postal service. See the praise lavished upon the wooden squares in my 52 (100%) customer reviews. At the time of writing, I have sold a total of well over 100 items.

NB Other media formats will be packaged as carefully as possible using appropriate materials. I have not catered for them separately in my shipping policay as I have not sold many.

I have already experienced one record which got damaged in transit in the UK and another that didn’t arrive in Australia, last seen in Sydney customs.

Therefore, I believe appropriate insurance cover is absolutely mandatory and helps to prevent disputes. Furthermore, Postal services with tracking, signature and the appropriate insurance cover tends to be pricey and that is what I provide. There are inflexible courier dimension/weight constraints for me to consider when packaging also.

Providing me with your home address or country will enable me to research appropriate postal services on royalmail.com ‘Get-A-Price’. I will purchase the cheapest, appropriate service with tracking and insurance cover for the items full purchase value.

Additionally for Non UK buyers, there are the customs procedural requirements and additional N22/N23 customs declaration document/form required for shipment outside the UK. I handle all of the paperwork. Let me be clear, I am keen to sell anywhere to anyone but the fact is that the further away it is from the UK, the more work is involved and the more costly it is for the seller. Obviously, postage is much more expensive to destinations outside the UK and the buyer is liable for any fees, duty or sales tax customs may charge. NB Despite VAT(UK Sales tax having already been paid when the album etc was first purchased, duty or sales tax can apply to second hand records etc in certain US states and EU countries. Discogs seems to handle this for most countries these days and takes any tax due at point of payment.

As well as Paypal fees, there are additional Paypal currency conversion costs (at least 7% of the total) involved as well as the Discogs fees plus VAT, approximately 10%. NB I pay all of the aforementioned 17%. I get less profit from non-UK sales due to the currency conversion.

Many countries/states do not levy any sales tax/duty on second hand goods but some do. For example, one buyer was recently charged Import Duty on a second hand 12 inch single. The buyer is always liable for any import duties or local sale tax which may arise from the sale. NB I will not fabricate the amounts or falsify the customs documents to reduce any duty or tax liable from the buyer, so please don't ask. both our details are recorded on the postal system.

Once your Paypal payment is received, I will purchase the cheapest, appropriate postal service, package the item(s) and post, arrange a free collection or drop off at a local Post Office or shop.

Please check the package for damage on arrival. If there are any problems, do not accept or sign for it. Instead, photograph it and request that they send it back to my return address recorded on their system which will save return postage.

I have cherished and looked after my music collection, shop displays, memorabilia and rarities. Consequently, they are in exceptional condition. I have owned the vast majority of my collection for the best part of 40 - 50 years. You can rest assured that I will endeavour to get them to you in the best possible condition, but am clearly dependent upon the various courier postal services doing their job. The level of care I have applied to keep these fine, often rare, specimens like new means that they can be sold at a at the high end of the market. They are typically stored in 3 layers of plastic in a dedicated record box. Currently, I have over 1100 items ed for sale on Discogs. The exercise has been a time-consuming, labour of love allowing me to revisit my vinyl collection regularly.

So far I have sold records, memorabilia etc to customers in the UK, , Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Russia, USA, Australia and Chile with relatively few problems. No insurance claims since I introduced the aforementioned square stiffeners.

I look forward to the pleasure of doing business with like-minded collectors and fans.
