***AMBIENT & EXPERlMENTAL FORUM MIX COMPETITION 2012***

Rules and Information for Participants

1) Any interpretation of Ambient & Experimental musics allowed

2) Convert to FLAC or MP3 format

3) Maximum length 80 minutes, minimum length 65 minutes.

4) Feel free to give your mix a title (DJ name and tracklist will be acknowledged at a later date)

5) Closing date for mix submissions will be end March

6) Simple marking out of 10 will be recorded on the website and mix with best average will be judged as winner.

7) Prize to be determined

8) GENRE for more details if you want to take part (the entries will be hosted on his website).

4 mixes in the cans already! these should be up and playable in 2 to 3 days

i just do the music CT and press a few buttons and follow a crib sheet to edit the site. i never said i was IT literate

Make that 3 of them and yes, Andy, one was yours, had a hunch that one was yours anyway ;)

I don't have the facility to change ID3 tags on the server so they'll need to be ed again. iTunes or whatever you're using on the Mac should let you edit the tags, Andy.

How does the listener give each mix a score? There is some guy on there putting "6/10" in the comments. Is that how it works, just put the score in the comment?

I noticed one thing about the site. when I click on http://www.verdant-recordings.com/ogs , I land on a page with only the first 4 mixes.
The only way I can see the rest of the mixes is by going directly to the homepage, then clicking on the navigation link that takes me to the mixes page. Is anyone else noticing this?

Still having difficulty navigating around the site and can't due to invalid token. That was using Safari. Can't at all using FF and it looks like comments and mixes are missing when comparing FF Safari and my iPhone. I managed to using my iPhone but whenever i moved onto a new page i was logged out again. Anyone else having problems?

I just wiped my cache, browsing history, cookies, etc, and it fixed the problem where if I link directly to the comp, I only see the first 4m mixes. I should have thought of that earlier. I will report back if it fixed my issues as well.

hey T0MMY_B0Y to get your mix up. Ill be watching from my work laptop but just dont have access to the FTP gubbins i would need.

ive added another mix tonight so now up to 10 but im out now for another week and unable to add any more mixe myself. please see Tom for any late entries. please keep the comments and scores coming in.

any thoughts on how long the judging period should run for? 3 weeks enough?

at last count we have over 1200 plays of these mixes! all wonderful stuff too

Where on the hosting site is the rating system for each mix?

^ it turned out a little complicated and too much work to add to the site in the little time we had so now we are improvising. Please just (use a spoof name if you want to remain anonymous) and leave a comment and score out of 10. ill do some averages later on

I havent ed anything yet, planning on doing it today. Have been procrastinating for 2 weeks. Oh, and working.

Cthulberg - I think GENRE is refering to coding. Mixes should still be able to be ed, right?

I could whip up a little php app to handle ratings for the next competition.

Also, I think we could come up with a strategy for using Soundcloud so that people can their mixes to their own , which is better for your site's bandwidth among other things. Soundcloud has a custom player that allows you to bring together tracks from a group into a single player w/ artwork, plus you can style the player to match your sites color scheme and whatnot. I do it with my 50 most recent favorites here: http://tonefolder.com/favorites . That way all of the tracks can be on a single web page with the ratings app right next to it.

Maybe even buy a domain name like "ogger-mix-competitions.org" or something silly like that.

the site is hosted by t0mmy_b0y so i have been ing the files from submitters through various fileshares. i then have to via an FTP to the V-R site and then spend a few minutes writing a new page for each mix.

see if Tom will do this in my absence otherwise we could always wait until im back next week to get the last few mixes into the comp.

how many more are we likely to get?

Cheers, I have been waiting till I had put mine up till I heard the others - I can't wait, by the sounds of it there are some lovely mixes. I sent an email to tom with the link to the mix so I can say I have entered before the deadline!

Have only scored two so far; on one the comment appears, but for the other strangely the comment only shows (to me anyway), when I'm logged in....

yeah this could be a (little) problematic.

Perhaps it's too much to rely on peoples' better natures and honesty. But if people do try to vote fairly then it just makes the whole thing more fun for everybody involved.

The competition has been set up for fun and for free by of this forum and said have also used their bandwidth hosting it, people have spent time making mixes as well. It would be good if everyone gave each mix a listen and a fair score and only voted once then, keeping in the vibe of the endeavour.

I think we can perhaps agree on a set of guidelines for scoring in the same way we did for subs which require that in the spirit of the competition you listen to all submissions in order to score all fairly. There's not an unmanagable amount to listen through. Then a comment and score for each mix from each person voting, and then only once, i think that's as equal as we can make it.

Perhaps if we could put those guidelines next to the comment boxes it would help.

Lacks coherency and the final tracks are not really ambient, but I liked a lot of the tracks and I realize it's harder to mix good stuff than boring minimal stuff.

Hi Andy/Tom, am trying to leave for two more mixes that I heard today. Am on a mix page (Grabbyhands) but I log-in and it jumps back to the top of the page, and when I scroll down to leave a comment I'm not logged in, repeat log-in process 10+ times, and always the same. :(
