Steely Dan – Can't Buy A Thrill

Could be a bad copy but there are skips here and there throughout. It could also be my stylus. It sounds great otherwise

It might not be the best pressing of this masterpiece, but it’s a very good one for sure
Luckily got a 0 surface noise copy, dynamics and details are both great!
Well worth its price

A superb pressing, rich and clear sound. Much better than the recent 2022 reissue IMO.

Not just great, fantastic sound!!!!! I own a lot of pressings since it is one of my favourite albums of all time and this is one of the best!!!

NM vinyl with quiet surfaces, and I love the sonics. Beautiful balanced sound on this 1974 reissue. Vocals big, clear and upfront, bass is punchy and balanced, a wonderful pressing - you can’t go wrong.

Not sure if I just got a bad one - but I get a lot crackling - pops on high notes that sound like the speakers blown - only record of mine that sounds like it. I’ve cleaned it - cleaned my stylus - everything - and still has the issue.

I’ve been contemplating the purchase of these Steely Dan UHQR pressings since thy were announced but I’m cheap and was waiting to pick one up second hand or discounted but that never happened, instead my eldest son got me “can’t buy a thrill” for Christmas 🎄.
Awesome packaging as usual from Analogue Productions but for $150 it better be. I was a little disappointed that both LP’s were packaged together in an inner sleeve inside of an outer sleeve while the actual record sleeve itself was unprotected. You would think that some foam protection would have been in order like the MOFI boxes to protect these beauties from delivery handlers? That being said everything was in place. I cleaned disc 1 and dropped the needle and after “”do it again” and into “dirty work” I started hearing popping, needles to say I was not happy. I removed the LP and gave it another cleaning and that seemed to remedy things. Disc 2 was excellent, no pops or clicks. Both LPs were flat and sound excellent. The only question that still remains for myself is are these albums really worth their high asking price of $150?

Sounds excellent and the jacket is great too. The new reissue sounds good too but this jacket is so much nicer.

A very crisp and clear pressing. Plus the actual vinyl is done right. Center label centered, flat, heavy, with nice separation of instruments and vocals. Good soundstage. However, I do have my OG that I bought in the early 70’s which also sounds excellent. If this one had never been released I’d be happy with my original. There never was a ton of low end punch to this record, but it was always easy to EQ that up a bit. Overall a decent but not essential pressing.

Can anyone confirm or deny if this version has the audible issue with the master tape on track 7, “Fire In The Hole” that’s present on other releases cut from this tape.
