at least Cherry Red TRIED to fix the problems with the original, BUT... why only fix a couple of the errors from the original release???... They should of just spent more time in going through all the problems and re-releasing it when it was ready... still NOT HAPPY JAN!!!
I'll just stick to my original release of this, since they didn't even bother correcting the track markers of track 6!!! -
I have had this CD for about 2 years now... have never really listened to it. But I'm transferring it onto my itunes and deleting the versions I have purchased from itunes store.. in doing so, I have found some track marker errors. Thinking it might of have just been my copy alone, I jumped onto here (discogs) to see what others are saying about this release. And thank gawd it's not just my copy.
This absolutely disgusting of Cherry Red to release this edition without double checking the quality and editing of the production. I would love to send it back to them and ask for a refund... but I think I brought this from Ebay???... can't ... still they should reimburse those of us who have purchased this edition regardless of where we purchased the release from.
Does anyone know if Cherry Red have re-released this without the errors and with remastering for great quality?
NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!! -
Edited 3 years agoDespite what others have said in the comments here, disc 1 has few audio quality problems. There are no signs of dynamic range compression or lossy transcoding. The only issue is unnecessarily long pauses between the songs, and unnecessary (but inaudible) dither noise added. That said, "99½" really could stand to be remastered.
Disc 2 likewise does not have any signs of lossy transcoding or excessive compression. It is a vinyl transfer, though.
To Cherry Pop's credit, the transfer was done reasonably well. It not exhibit improper use of noise reduction tools. In fact, it seems they used a very light touch in their post-processing, so the usual problem of excessive declicking is not much of an issue here. Stereo width and EQ aren't perfect but are what you'd expect from vinyl...so not quite on par with the digitally sourced disc 1, but good enough. There's a little distortion in the intro of "Din Daa Daa", but no distorted sibilants, and I don't think there's any CD release of this song which isn't a vinyl rip anyway.
The only problems on disc 2, really, are that there's an abundance of surface noise, plus those skips which other commenters have already pointed out. The surface noise isn't terribly distracting, but it's obvious in headphones, and would get the record a VG rating from an honest seller. The skips, though, if due to defects or scratches, would drop the condition to just Fair. Surely they could've budgeted for a better copy of the vinyl to work from. Or for that matter, the original CD release.
Cherry Red / Cherry Pop are notorious for these kinds of problems. For every release which upholds reasonable standards of quality, there's one which was thrown together in haste, without respect for the music or the fans. -
Compression generation vinyl transcoded MP3 rips
And CDs being issued with a totally different album and track list mastered to it I have seen it all.
I cannot understand they manufacture the artwork for the tracks silkscreen for the disc they are releasing yet they always end up having to state errors have now been fixed what errors are discovered after its released? what baffles me is errors found upon the initial first pressings? Its just sloppy.
Isn't the whole point of releasing something achieved after its ready for release?
I can understand a fatal error like a CD being totally mispressed with something totally different i mean it's laughable for the most part.
But i don't think its a mistake with errors like these exist on this release I think they just don't care
With the amount of CDs that are mastered from MP3s it says it all really about about the quality of music today.
It will all be lost one day It wouldn't surprise me if they destroyed all the lossless DAT masters after they converted them all them to lossy MP3 to save space in the archives 😄.
the all new lossy master for the compression generation.
they want to kill of all physical media in favour of streaming anyway.

This CD has been so long awaited, but then Cherry Pop decided that they will mess things up! The first CD has a track problem where one song finishes, then before it goes into the next track, you get about 5 seconds of blankness, then the next song starts, after about 30 seconds of the song, it then appears to go into the next track, track marker is very much off on that song for tracks 5 and 6 of CD 1, the second CD is mastered from Vinyl, even though it claims to be remastered from the original tapes, it is not a glitch on track 5 anymore, they sorted that apparently, it is the last track that has a skip about a minute in on Oye Mamacita by Rags & Riches. also has very apparent, vinyl rumble all the way through the disc, its mad to think that in this day and age of remastering stuff, could they not have just got a copy of the original CD and licensed it from Polydor to reproduce it! Would have been so much easier considering the original movie soundtrack for the first movie is available on CD in the states for about £13!! I've sent my disc back to get a refund, totally not worth £1 bargain basement, let alone £11 they charge for this! Has since been made out of stock on Cherry Pop website!

the original West German CD from 1984 I own is flawless so theres a problem with this re release but like most re releases and remasters I wouldn't give them the time and day 99% are always sloppy did they use the masters??....

People complain on DISCOGS for the dumbest things! As long as THEY HAVE WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR IS ALL THAT MATTERS!!!!

On CD 2, 2 small Errors have been noticeable. Track 5 at 3:37 and Track 10 at 1:01. It has also been made known in Customer Reviews, then I think it's uniform.
