The mastering of this compilation is quite uneven. Some tracks sound louder than the others. And the sound treatment for "Secret" is unfaithfull to the original.
This compilation is a manifesto of the art of clumsiness in the making of those extended mixes of OMD singles back in the eigthies. Even if it's a real treat to have them gathered in one place, you can't help noticing all those approximate editings and odd arrangements available here. "If You Leave", "Secret", "Dreaming", "Forever Live And Die" are the most obvious. If they had added "Shame" or "La Femme Accident" to this CD the picture would have been complete.
To my knowledge, there are not many artists around with that kind of remixes in their back catalog. We love those versions more or less because they belong to past moments of our lives, but they certainly would not be welcomed if they were to be released today...
It's funny how imperfection gives them a special flavour today.

This is on every release. It's just how it was edited on tape back in 1986. It's not a glitch or skip it just is.

Does anyone else's copy have a strange break in rhythm at about 2:34 into the "(Forever) Live and Die" mix, track 10, cutting off the word "die" in the chorus? I'm not sure whether this is a CD glitch or just an unusual element of the remix.

The versions on this CD are, according to Blank & Jones, all taken from the original mastertapes. No vinyl was used. The different sound on Secret and most other tracks is caused by the new mastering. Mostly what you hear is the louder sound it's a proces called "Hard Limiting".

Track 9 "Tesla Girls" is the mix from the Canadian 12". The instrumental version of this mix is on the U.S. 12".

Been listening to the version of Tesla Girls here. It's a longer version of the Extra Remix, with an extra section from about 01:02 to 01:57. Before and after that, both tracks are the same.

Also, I don't know if it's just the change from vinyl to cd, but Secret seems to have a VERY different drum sound. Just compare the opening few seconds!

10 The John ´Tokes´ Potoker "Extended Mix" (runtime on label 5:45) released on VS888-12 and begins with bass and synth accords.
The Tom Lord-Alge "Extended Re-Mix" (runtime on label 5:58) released on VS888-13 and begins with the same intro as the 7"-Version.
So this is the official version (CD runtime 5:56), re-mixed by Tom Lord-Alge.
For the first edition of the Re-Mix there was changed the matrix number on vinyl while the (wrong) cover of the Mix was used.

10 is indeed the Tom Lord-Alge mix see credit as for the Potoker mix this can be found on a French compilation set called Maxi Singles 80 (Volume 2). And yes it should be called Extended REmix but that's not what's on the cover.
As for Tesla girls. It looks like this is a completely unreleased mix or edit. It's longer than the "Extra Remix" but shorter as the "Specially Remixed Version". It's nice to have a version of this mix on CD though.

05 Original UK release titled as "Genetic Engineering (312MM Version)"
08 Original UK release titled as "So In Love (Extended Mix)"
09 This is not the original UK 12" Version on VS705-12, perhaps it´s the canadian release
10 This is not the rare John 'Tokes' Potoker "Extended Mix", this is the Tom Lord-Alge "Extended Re-Mix"
13 Original UK release titled as "Brides Of Frankenstein (Mix)"
