Notes
Fresh Cream is the debut from four studio album (1966-1969) by the legendary British blues trio of Baker, Bruce & Clapton (S. Splurge'.
Some later issues of this 10-track release contain two extra tracks;
"Wrapping Paper (Bruce/Brown)" and "The Coffee Song (Colton/Smith)", totaling 12 tracks.
(Recorded earlier by Timperley at Rayrik Studios, Chalk Farm, London; Aug 1966)
"Rayrik Studios" was renamed "Chalk Farm Studios" in 1968
"Ryemuse Studio" [Spot Productions] was renamed "Mayfair Studios" in June 1971.
(Whilst the latter names may be credited on some issues, they did not exist as those titles at time of recording)
Notice that there are two different track running orders. In the original UK release, track A1 is "N.S.U", and it includes "Spoonful" as A5. In the original US release, the track "I Feel Free", which was originally a non-album-single in the UK, was added to the track listing as A1, and "Spoonful" is omitted entirely. US copies change to the UK track listing and jacket graphics upon moving off Atco label c. 1974.
Also note that there are two different cover versions. In the original US release, the title 'Fresh Cream' is in a 'San Francisco Hippy' font surround by a box with rounded corners; the original UK release has the title 'morphed' to look like a dollop of cream.
Performed by:
Eric Clapton – guitar, vocals

Excellent pressing. Well balanced , silent and zero sibilance. Clapton's solo in NSU is just stunning.

This Polydor reissue sounds really good : with size, energy, presence, clarity, and weight;with tons of studio space and lovely vocal presence. I don't have an OG to compare, but i have had the 1996 remastered DCC version, too damn smooth: compressed, thick, dull, opaque, and almost completely lacking in ambience. This one is a good deal if you get a NM copy ! -
All of these Polydor Cream reissues sound great. Glad I picked them all up. I also have original pressings to compare them to, Bit more dynamic than the originals.
-
I’ll be the first to comment. This pressing sounds very good. Its open and the stereo separation is well defined and clear.

Unbelievably good. They are right here. In my living room. A buddy who knows more about Cream pressings than I ever will said 1st Monarchs are the way to go with all their albums except this one. And this is the press to get. -

Edited 11 months agoThis is a fantastic album and my favourite Cream offering. I have this in several different editions, masterings etc and its so nice to hear in its pure unremastered format. Also interesting is the alternative track listing and track order. This seems to fall in line with later US pressings. This polydor version appears to be identical to the RSO edition which carries the exact same artwork etc. This is an excellent mastering and like all German solid silver hub CDs it sounds absolutely superb. I highly recommend this edition which is only bettered by the hard to obtain DCC gold disc edition. The differences are subtle so this is an affordable alternative.

Come on... reissue the mono mix on LP! How come Disraeli regularly gets reissued and repressed in mono, yet Fresh Cream doesn't get any mono reissues at all, leaving us with only the cruddy, hard panned and unbalanced stereo mix?
