This pressing is a bit noisy, but not as noticeable once the songs start playing. Otherwise, great songs and a memorable album and listening experience!

This record must be in the Guiness world record book for the world's smallest run in. It's so small it's almost impossible to see. I had to shine a bright light on it just to see it's maybe 3mm. Not to mention of that 3mm some of it can't be used to cue it up and what can be used is on such an angle it drops the needle quite sharply into the first song. It has to be a mistake.

Production is gorgeous, be it the sparseness of Seedy Films or the frenzied layers of Sex Dwarf (which is possibly the best song ever written). This pressing sounds incredible.

Edited one year agoThis record sounds really good to me. Barely any surface noise/static and completely flat. Definitely nice to have a gatefold copy with the extra tracks. I would recommend getting it for a decent price. I don’t yet know why yellow vinyl was chosen for the colour of disc 1, I would have thought a neon pink would compliment the cover art better alongside the blue, but I don’t have a yellow record yet so it’s nice to see.

Edited one year agoJust noticed something of an anomaly (I think).
Prior to the release of the box set Soft Cell made available on U Tube, some of the remixes as a preview.
One of which is 'Seedy Films (2023 Extended Version)' that clocks in at just over 7 minutes and has a
'Cold' ending.

Yet the version showing above in the track listing and indeed on the actual physical cd has a track time of 5:16 and fades?
Guessing this may have been a last minute thing to make the fit onto physical media. but I'm curious.
Anyone else noticed this or can shed any light on it?
On the set in general, well done Soft Cell again for providing quality product with lots and lots to keep us all going.
Also it looks like the digital release contains a longer remix of Sex Dwarf which cold ends too,
unlike the box set version that also fades.
If you're a completist (Like me) worth while taking a look around, as currently they only seem to be
available on the digital release.
Apparently there is a 2 CD version coming soon and they may or may not appear on that.

A great album, if you like early 80s British Synthpop. It’s got one of the best songs ever written on it to! “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye”. Essential listening!

Edited one year agoReally good Atmos Mix, "Sex Dwarf" is particularly "dirty"..
A very good realese, great atmos mix, perfect mastering. The music itself has not aged very well in the whole, there are great tunes as "Tainted Love" or "Sex Dwarf" but most of it shows it was recorded using low end gears, which make them sound cheesy.
A fun listen, but not something I will play repeatedly. -

I don't have any other pressing to compare mine to but I can't imagine it sounding more holographic than this. It's not bombastic bass-wise but it's just about right. It's full of analog synth goodness and interesting sounds jumping out from all around the soundstage. Musically, it's a classic early 80s synth-pop record with more than a couple great songs. Of course you probably know that if you found this page. -
Edited one year agoThis digital remaster sounds very clean and lifeless. Digital anything in the '80s is an embarrassment. I'll have to keep an eye out for a vinyl copy.
