There's something really wrong with this pressing. Besides the weird noises throughout, it just sounds off. I think Cherry Red used the DVD surround sound mix instead of the stereo mix. If you're already very familiar with these recordings, prepare to be disappointed. Besides all that, it seems like no thought was put into the order of the tracks.

had the same problems on side A with crackling. washing with record washing machine didn't help a lot. took a brush and a liquid and washed manually - almost 50% of crackles dissappeared (some crakling become quieter). Looks that it requires a bit havier washing technique. Alas, it will never help improving disastrous mastering on side A (other sides sound very well).

Luckily, I hadn't read the reviews here before I bought a copy from the RSD leftovers section in a local store. My copy plays perfect.

"I have read the other comments deriding the playback quality of this but MY copy plays just as well as any other LP I have."- Absolutely right! Everything sounds great !

I have read the other comments deriding the playback quality of this but MY copy plays just as well as any other LP I have.
Just wondering whether the US and European pressings are the same (i.e. ONE press for all) or if they press separately.

Oh Dear.
I finally played it, and it is easily as bad as people say. Constant distortions and buzzing throughout side A. Sounds like the digital files were not mastered correctly, not transferred to vinyl correctly, or not cut or pressed correctly. I don't know, I'm not an expert, but I know when something has gone wrong. Haven't heard anything like this on a record ever. People talk about hearing pressing and mastering errors, and I think I miss 90% of that.
Having this on a commercial release is not cool. It sounds like maybe a batch that was good was pressed, maybe that was the one checked.
Shame, as the music is 9/10 - it really holds together, side B with the VF concentrate is a highlight. Side A is great musically with new versions. Side D I love for the "We Are the World" rip. -
I must agree with those calling out lousy quality of the pressing/mastering of this release. I washed this album before I played it. At first I thought my stylus was misaligned because of the buzzing & distortion especially during Canstantinople. I changed out the cartridge & the noise was the same. This apparently shoddy attention to detail is quite disappointing considering the only rush to market was self-imposed. Othewwise, the music & packaging is excellent.

I too was worried after purchasing this and reading the quality reviews. I just finished listening to the whole thing and think it's fine. I must have gotten a better copy than some other folks. It happens sometimes. Also, I won't question the mastering too much because yeah it may seem a little unbalanced at times, but overall the discs are fine on my copy. The music is great and a great twist on the classics!
