"When Somebody Loves You Back" is undeniably one of the best songs ever made imo. One of the top soul songs ever for sure. That song is in my top 10-15 favorite songs ever and for a good reason

              Album Revolution #2:

By 1978, the "Disco Movement" was in Super Full Bloom, and just about every artists felt they had to contribute to the genre..."Philadelphia International Records", under the guidance of "Kenny Gamble" and "Leon Huff", was there from the start, having artists like "The Three Degrees", "Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass", and especially "The O'Jays" giving us pure "Disco" classics....

Once "Teddy Pendergrass" went solo, he felt right at home with his "Disco" inspired first "Self Titled" album (and it just Busted through the Genre!!!!)....So with the help of "Gamble & Huff", "Teddy" was able to continue his "Disco" assault, with the release of "Life Is A Song Worth Singing" (a total Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel)...

Starting with the "Disco Flavored" "Title Track" (written by "Linda Creed" and my favorite Songwriter and producer of all time, "Mr. Thom Bell"), "Teddy" was able to continue to channel those roaring Vocals of his onto a very rough but danceable track...I found out years later that this was a remake, that was first recorded by "Johnny Mathis", from his "I'm Coming Home" album (released in 1973)....Produced by "Thom Bell", I implore everyone to check that one out as well....But, I have to be honest..."Mathis" version has nothing on "Teddy's"!!!! "Teddy's" Vocals is truly the difference!!!!

Moving on, the "Disco" assault continues with "Only You"...This commanding t, once again has "Teddy" at his Roaring best....

"Cold, Cold World" (written and produced by "Gene McFadden", "John Whitehead" and "Victor Carstarphen") cools things down a bit..."Teddy's" very strong and Manly Vocals were able to deliver some fantastic lyrics!!!!

"Get Up, Get Down, Get Funky, Get Loose", gets "Teddy" back on the "Disco Train"....What I love about this Footstompin' t is, toward the end of the song, a crowd was put into the studio, no doubt to have that "Disco Party Vibe"!!!!!

Now, the song that started the "Super Sexy Teddy Vibe" was the unmistakable ""Close The Door"...

Written by "Gamble & Huff" and Arranged by my man "Thom Bell", this t tapped into something that I don't think anyone saw coming!!!! This t is so sexy, that it really started some things (you can use your imagination on that one!!!!!)!!!!! I was 7 when this came out, so I didn't get it when I saw women going buck wild when "Teddy" sang this classic...Now I get it!!!!

"It Don't Hurt Now" was also a terrific Classic Slow Jam, tailor made for "Teddy's" Vocals...

"When Somebody Loves You Back" was not only the perfect album closer, it was one of "Teddy's" Classiest songs....

This Man could not do no wrong by the time this album came out!!!!!!

This was when Women were throwing themselves at him, and at the same time, made a lot of guys jealous!!!! Besides that though, he was a great singer to me, and these songs really expressed that point!!!! This album really started something for "Teddy"...Everything that he envisioned for himself was coming true...So, to say that this album was part of his truly creative period, was really an understatement!!!!!!!!

VMP hit it out of the park with this one. Love when the ROTM is something that was not on my radar.

Flat pressing. Dynamic sound. Powerful music!

Without a doubt Pendergrass' masterpiece. Absolute start-to-finish record, and very few albums exist in this world that have no skips. This is one of them.

Two remarks regarding the copy of Teddy Pendergrass - Life Is A Song Worth Singing that I received today. The inner sleeve had seam splits on the three edges. It's a shame to get seam splits on a new record. Without knowing how good the source material was, all I'm going to say is that the sound is good but not great. it has good bass, but lacks a bit on the high-end. It has an average dynamic range and sounds over compressed to me. Probably the way they mixed things down in the late 80's when disco was king? Everything else (booklet, jacket, vinyl quality, pressing) are top-quality.

Surprise surprise, another home run for VMP Classics. This was an inspired selection, the high production values and orchestration sound sublime.

This is a great soul album with high quality vinyl that is quiet and performed superbly. Highly recommend this Philadelphia Soul music. Teddy’s voice with strings and bass is fantastic and highly recommended!
