Opportunities (Reprise) would've fit in perfectly at the end of side 1, but instead they plonked it in front of Tonight Is Forever at the start of side 2, where it doesn't work at all...

It's probably fair to assume that if you've purchased this you are a PSB fan, and as such it's very likely you're going to write a very positive review because... you love PSB!

This aside I'm very, very happy with not only this Further Listening release, but, to be frank, ALL of the Further Listening releases of their back catalogue. I'm writing this review after having acquired the last three of the entire set and my feelings about this matter are the same across all the releases, and as such I will be posting the same review across them all.

Setting aside my love for PSB's work, these are very fine releases in their own rights. Each was remastered wonderfully in my opinion. They are very clean, with tape hiss (on the older releases) having been well controlled and managed, but not entirely removed. Had they done so I would have been worried about what impact such measures would have had upon the quality of the music.

The accompanying CD(s) offer lots of additional works that would have been much harder to acquire separately, and in some instances provide us tracks that have never been released on CD before.

But by far the most exciting and valuable component must be the accompanying booklets filled with a brief discussion about the history of the original release; followed by lyrics, with accompanying interviews regarding same; and finally the lovely photos from that time period.

Listening to the CDs while reading through the booklets has been a true treasure over the past two years, and these alone make purchasing the Further Listening series well worthwhile for any PSB fan.

However my sleeve is glossy, and does not have "Made in England" on the back cover

I love the huge lead in track - wide enough to park my car on! Easy to make sure the needle never misses even after a few wines...
Sounds good, my pressing is also clean - hadn't played for many years but despite some old surface dust it impressed.

"Please" is with "Actually" and perhaps "Very" and "Yes" one of the best PSB albums ever (no matter what the "Behavio(u)r" lovers out there will say). What's not to like about this album ? 4 top singles : the cult "West End Girls", the lovely "Love Comes Quickly", the smashing and ironic "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money)" and the epic sounding "Suburbia".

But that's not all, even the album songs are incredibly good "Two Divided By Zero", "I Want A Lover", "Why Don't We Live Together" and the more mellow "Tonight Is Forever". "Please" is a classic. Surely one of the 100 albums to listen to before you die.

And the song "Violence" will be even better in its "Hacienda version" released 8 years later during the "Very" days.
