This reissue sounds incredible and for good reasons. Like the 2018 Craft Reissue it uses the same stampers as the 91' OJC Remaster by Phil De Lancie. According to Steve Hoffman himself Phil was cutting the OJCs in 91 using an AAA process from original tapes (most of the OJCs from the 80s and early 90s are as well). If you've heard this pressing it's not surprising as the sound reflects. The added bonus here is that it's pressed by RTI and it's about as clean and quiet as you'd expect from them.
Wasn't expecting this when I bought it from VMP in the first place, but it's turned out to be a nice gem. I don't even think they were fully aware of the history behind the release either as they didn't these details. It's probably not going to beat out a NM RVG master by any stretch, but as far as reissues go this cut is going to sound superior to any other reissue version out there. The jacket leaves a lot to be desired.... would have been nice to have a heavy weight tip-on. -
Beautiful copy of this classic in clear vinyl with black and blue hi-melt. Was listed as pressed at RTI on the VMP website. Really happy with the sound on this pressing, stereo mix, well mastered. Not sure if its from an analog source, but it sounds warm and full to these ears. Sleeve is a bit thin, tip-on would have been nice.
