Can't believe how much this pressing is fetching. Sounds good and all. Just hard to imagine I once got this for under 30 brand new back in 2013.

I agree with longgoneday1, seteven and dagerman. Not an hyper audiophile pressing but totally acceptable. Sound is good, instruments are clear, in particular the acoustic guitar and the voice sounds like it should be - soft and clear. Maybe a little bit muddy in depths and minimal crackle but nothing major. Compared to the BackToBlack it is the much better choice. The cover is solid thick cardboard and the vinyl is flat and feels near 180g. I am satisfied.

Edited 4 years agoThis is not horrible in any way. Compared to CD and digital it is on par with both, and to me, sounds better. This was not a big budget recording. The record is flat, heavy, mostly quiet, but did come with some faint hairlines and sleeve scuffs out of the box. Clean it before you put it on as it was dirty from the factory. There is faint noise from time to time but it does not overpower the music anywhere on this pressing (clean the record). Artwork is great and the Tip-On sleeve is top notch. I bought this version new when it came out and it has sounded the same on the few systems I have played it through for the past ten years. This is a record I grew up with, it came out when I was in high school. For the price it is a great buy. It is a quiet pressing. Currently my standard volume is 32 and this record I play at 40.

I think this LP is totally acceptable, and it even compliments the sound of the pressing with a very chilled and soft type of music. i cant hear any loud surface noise or any distortion. my LP is dead flat, its thick enough, sounds fine to me...

Plain do get a bad rap, and sometimes quite rightly (their Pulp "Different Class" pressing is an abomination) it also seems quite the fashion to s**t on them too, regardless of whether it is deserved or not. This Mazzy Star reissue isn't so bad. Its not an Audiophile go to, but it's totally serviceable and way better than I was anticipating. For the record I believe I have the more recent pressing (white sticker on the front) that, from a QC perspective, appears to be considered a superior product than the first run they put out. If I am going to show off my system I am not going to put this on, but it isn't a dump at a 2nd hand store type of deal either.

All of my pressings of the three Mazzy Star album reissues from 2009 and 2010 are all among my best sounding records.

get the new plain reissue (the one with a white sticker) they corrected some of the flaws from this pressing, it sounds really good, i haven't heard this one but the 2015 RE doesn't have much noise on it

I picked this up on Record Store Day April 2013 for 21.99 CAN and while I agree with many of the comments here about the quality of the pressing, I unfortunately have experienced even more disappointment with a few recent pressings...so I've heard worse, but a record this gentle and quiet deserves a better quality pressing.

I can vouch for all the negative comments on the pressing quality. Lots of surface noise through out. Agreed this is still a great album but do not buy this pressing.
