Whilst light-years away from there best stuff, there's some good songs on this album, sadly they're buried underneath some truly shocking mastering!
no finesse, your ears just get smashed to bits by a brickwall of sound, not how R.E.M should sound at all. and this is the vinyl!
its listed with a DR of 10, cant believe its that high, sounds much more like the 6 of the CD to me..
Perhaps a Steve Hoffmann or MOFI remaster could save it..

I...really don't like this album. It sounds so tired, so lifeless, and such a blatant attempt to sound youthful and relevant. Many of the tracks are very similar in sound and style to those earlier on in R.E.M.'s career. One of R.E.M.'s biggest attributes was the ability to adapt their style and challenge the listener so that they we were never really sure what to expect for their next album. It provided a diverse discography that was far from faultless, but nevertheless contained several of my all time favourite albums. Collapse into Now sounds like a band that ran out of ideas.

This album has more energy than before. The lyrics are more assertive and more straightforward voice of Stipe. Not so glad with 'Shiny Happy People' not so dark as 'Drive'.
