I love this pressing. After listening to my original it is incredible to hear everything with such renewed clarity.

Edited 2 years agoI've always found the original RL to be a good sounding record, but nonetheless just a little too muffled for my liking. The question has shifted towards a battle between the 50th anniversary and the MoFi: a 2xLP 45RPM set cut from a digital remix of the multi track masters, or an all-analog cut sourced from a UK copy of the original master tape.
To start out with, the 50th edition was remixed in conjunction with Robbie Robertson, so I'd argue the "woody" and "unearthed" sound he made for the original mix was transferred to this one very well. Overall, the album has a crisp and clear sound while still maintaining that atmosphere. The album has a good soundstage, with instruments and vocals separated quite nicely. It's a great edition to own if you're not looking to spend too much money on a pressing.
When it comes to the MoFi, it has all the same qualities I enjoy from the 50th and amplifies them to a higher level. There's more detail, especially on Levon's drums and acoustic guitars. The music has more power when blasting from my speakers, yet still remains in control and undistorted. One last small detail is that I prefer the MoFi fake leather texture on the jacket compared to the matte cardstock on the 50th.
Overall, I'd definitely pick the MoFi over the 50th anniversary edition if you can afford it. However, the 50th is far from a bad copy for the money. It's definitely one of the biggest bangs for your buck currently out there, and out performs a lot of standard editions of classic albums.
