Laatste album van de getalenteerde singer/songwriter, die 7 september 2003 overleed aan longkanker. Die ziekte was waarschijnlijk terug te voeren naar Warrens jeugd, toen hij altijd te vinden was in de met asbest beklede schuur van zijn grootvader. Zijn verslaving aan sigaretten maakte het er niet beter op. Dit album nam hij op nadat de fatale diagnose was gesteld en er was hem een hoop aan gelegen om van dit album een end slotakkoord van zijn leven te maken. Om dit te bereiken kreeg hij hulp van zijn muzikale vrienden Ry Cooder, Dwight Yoakam, Jim Keltner, David Lindley, Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, Billy Bob Thornton, Don Henley, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris en vele anderen. Een overbekend nummer als Bob Dylans Knockin' On Heavens Door krijgt hier opeens een navrante lading. Net als George Harrison anderhalf jaar eerder, levert Zevon vlak voor zijn dood één van zijn beste albums af.
