Have this except my matrix in deadwax are A4 and B3. Sounds fantastic so not sure why some reviews have a bad sounding copy. maybe other issues. This sounds as full and dynamic as any Steely dan album should.
-
Also got variant 3 (etched Side A, stamped Side B), pretty damn good sounding record, lots of punch mixed with a clear sound overall. Definitely seems like Side A is cut a little brighter than Side B on my end, but it's nothing detrimental. Can't wait for this and Katy to be reissued next year.

I was a bit worried about this press after reading some of the reviews here, but after checking it out I can confirm that matrix Variant 2 sounds nice, crisp and very enjoyable!

Variant 3, VG+ media, sounds great. Re problems noted below, perhaps some variance between pressings or previously been played with a worn needle?
-
My copy is very clean and scratch-free but just doesn't sound great, considering it's a Steely Dan album. Side A seems to be cut a bit lower than Side B and it's not particularly dynamic. My late 90s remastered CD sounds way better than this. I think the US ABC first pressings are the way to go for Dan albums.
-
I notice this version has "Roger Nichols Rules" in tiny little letters in the dead wax on side one which the black label doesn't have.
-
i have this copy but with the new note ABC logo variation on the label , there doesnt seem to be a seperate listing for this, unless this repress ran for so long the label changed at a certain point ?
anyway - it sounds brilliant
steely dan seem to be one of those bands that didnt press bad records
