It can also be identified by the presence of the matrix number 7XCE 17144-1N in the runout. In recent years there have been some reissues that have also included this version.

There's no way that this came out in 1963 with those markings. It was reissued in February 1964 and this one would definitely be 1964 (or possibly even later). -

Just wow! Crazy punchy sound! Very powerful, very three-dimensional, very groovy! Compared to the pressing from The Beatles - The Singles Collection everything sounds much clearer and also more upbeat, louder, more raw, just better! The drums, for example, are much more present. This pressing will knock your socks off! -

My version's Matrix / Runout is Side A 7XCE 17144-7 and Side B 7XCE 17145-6 -

I just acquired a 1963 copy and it is definitely the Ringo on drums (no tambourine) version. Which probably isn't surprising - they didn't create new single stampers when the tape from 4 Sep 1962 was lost. This seems to contradict what others have said - but definitely No Tambourine on my copy.

It claims 250-300 were mispressed red before being corrected to black. Perry Cox (of Beatles Price Guide reference books) is listed as an author (at bottom of linked page).

I believe that the runout data listed above ( according to several data points, both on the 'net and between world-wide Beatles collectors) is incorrect. If this is truly variation 4, then the matrices should be 7XCE 17144-7 and 7XCE 17145-5.
