C. A. Quintet – Trip Thru Hell

Quite enjoyable, eclectic and weird fuzz. One day the "unicorn" original will surface in the wild? Probably not but stranger things have happened.

This is a hard one to hunt down, would love to find a copy! I hear the sound quality is very good

It isn't listed on Discogs but there is another Candy Floss counterfeit floating around out there, similar to the 80s counterfeit (and being sold as such) but without the textured cover (glossy cardstock sleeve) and using the Sundazed remaster.

This Psycho reissue is in mono and is missing the right channel of the stereo pressings. Makes for a really interesting stripped-back sound on the three stereo tracks. Most of the album is in mono (aside from "Cold Spider" and the two "Trip Thru Hell" tracks) so it's not much of a loss for a lot of the songs.

Aside from the mess up, this Psycho reissue actually sounds really good!

I Want You To Love Me Girl finally makes a CD appearance, albeit in fake stereo. Isolating either channel gets you the untampered mono, so I don't know what happened there. Fellow b-side She's Got To Be True remains vinyl-bound. The two newies are from acetate and sound like heavily filtered mp3s on top of that. For die hard fans only.

Sound is incredible! Absolutely blows the bootleg I had out of the water. Seems like the pressing to get if you can't shell out the cash for an original. Highly reccomended!

Update: I mentionned some time ago in another post that my copy was really noisy. Well, I recently took it to get cleaned professionally on a Keith Monk (which is one of the best cleaning machines) to see if it could improve sound. It didn't. Bad quallity pressing unfortunately.

This is absolutely splitting hairs but their “Hellfire red” looks like ruby red to me 🤣

Not sure what the difference is between this MH copy I just got and the 2022 MH version but this one sounds amazing considering I read the OG tapes are long gone. The copy I got from a local RS last year had horrible surface noise throughout so I returned it. Then I noticed, in the last year, Sundazed pulled this LP from their website and recently put it back up for sale. They must've repressed the same cut but with better QC cuz this time there is no surface noise problem. I emailed Sundazed to ask about this reissue and they said they stand by their products. With reassurance they would take care of me if this pressing was bad I tried a second copy and am glad I did! I can finally enjoy this album on my turntables!

Kevin Gray cut this reissue and it sounds amazing if you find a well-pressed copy. His initials, KPG, are in the deadwax.
