Ok, I do agree with you on a general term, but we have to distinguish what is and what is not dependent on dynamics such as some 80''s and most '70s and older recordings that are heavily depending on dynamics.
However, in the case of Billy Idol, he is not dependent of dynamics as he is always over the top and so know your artirts before you place your criticism, this will kind of work for this artist. I will go along with you for any artist that depend on dynamics, just not in the case of Billy Idol who does not depend on it. -
Usually, Blank & Jones do these vinyl onto CD and they add tons of compression with the end result of a sound very close to a lossy mp3. Really sad, cause it is possible to come up with decent results but 1. It needs to be clearly d as Vinyl Rip and 2. Don't add compression or any other "betterments" - just record it properly in 24 bit and pronto, you are done.
Haven't listened to this particular edition, but I've had enough of their so00s (so2000mp3ish) so I wouldn't even bother.
