Wow. So I was fortunate enough to purchase a mint copy. Obviously when a album is hyped like this you expect it to blow you away and it exceeded my expectations

Edited 3 months agoAmazing version, but this version has noticable more bass than lets say the MOFI 1981 version or an early Japanese version. I really like the extra bass and make this pressing feel different compare to other pressings.
This pressing is certainly ALOT better than the 40th anniversary and the 50th anniversary that released last year. Those versions are (my opinion) not even that special.
I must only say that a japanese (like a 3rd pressing i own) is alot better than this 30th anniversary edition, but if you are into more bass i would get this pressing if you want to make a choice -
It was difficult to understand which of the 3 versions of the 30th anniversary was mine, but I succeeded. It sounds extraordinary. I don't have other copies to compare it, but from what I hear it should be one of the best versions in circulation. I feel lucky.

Edited 8 months agoPressing is the best I've heard of Dark Side but I don't have 1st UK or US presses. Does anyone know why an AAA 2003 mastering done by Kevin Gray would still not be as good as the mass produced UK 1973 press? Doesn't Gray have access to the master tapes, why wouldn't his press be at least as good as a 1973 press? Need some education as to why 1st presses are better than reissues for the most part even if those reissues are AAA

My copy of this has had major ticks and pops from day one. I bought it back when it came out and probably only listened a few times because of it. I should have returned it. Outside of the ticks and pops it sounds excellent. A good wash on my RCM didn't seem to help. I must have a bad pressing.

Really really love that 30th anniversary poster. What do you believe could be the best way to acquire just the poster? Sorry for the irrelevant and dumb question…

Edited 12 months agoSincerely I don’t understand what’s the hype about this cut. I’ve spun it 3 times and yet it is a very nice, soft sounding cut with clean and clear recording details, the soundstage is too narrowed compared to my UK A4/B3, UK HTM and 50th anniversary. It is closer to my US Wally cut but with better bass and a bit more definition.
I don’t think I have a pressing I could define as “the greatest”, “better” or “the best”. To me, most have something that makes them special. -
Copies of this album's master tapes were leaked / released online a few years ago, and to me, this pressing is what ressembles them the most. Excellent pressing, beautiful soundstage, great dynamics, full and rich sound. Many consider this pressing as the definitive edition of the album, and I agree with them.

Edited one year agoBreathe is my favorite test track for side one for any version of Dark Side Of The Moon, Half-Speed or otherwise. When the voices come in about halfway through the song, you can tell that most copies are too bright simply by listening to the vocals on this track. The cymbals might sound wonderful; lots of other instruments might sound wonderful; and there might be plenty of ambience, detail and transparency.
But all of that counts for nothing if the voices don’t sound right.
And on most copies the voices sound bright, aggressive, grainy and transitory. (This is the case with the 180 gram 30th Anniversary Edition, unfortunately: The 30th Anniversary Heavy Vinyl pressing is too bright. There is a boost in the top end, which was apparently a poor mastering choice the late Doug Sax made, a choice that is surely not doing this recording any favors. -
The drums are AMAZING in this record, but also the vocals and bass. It does sound a bit too bright, but nothing that bothers me, considering that everything else absolutely shines.
