Bought mine in 2006. Sounds fine. This is an amazing album and in my top 10 of hip hop for me. New audiophile edition out on stonesthrow. Guessing for all you out there who think this is a crap copy. The new release will be a exciting upgrade

Edited 4 years agoI concur with the other reviews. This is a bad pressing made in a hurry. In comparison with a good digital source, sound is distant and not well defined, lyrics are lost in the mix. I strongly recommend to avoid it or, at least, not pay more than 30$ for it.

My copy sounds pretty good. Hard to tell if my ears are being extra nitpicky cause of all the negative reviews but it's definitely not as terrible as others here... if I didn't read all this shit I probably wouldn't have thought twice and just enjoyed the music....¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Yeah, avoid this pressing. On my copy, all four sides suffer from the same problem - the first half of a side will sound fine, but once you that halfway mark the vocals sound extremely scratchy. It's irritating and off-putting, especially considering DOOM's vocals are much of this album's appeal, and great songs like Raid, Curls, Money Folder, All Caps & more are ruined.
-
I got a sealed copy and after listening to it twice I am still happy with the sound quality, must just be luck with this pressing. Maybe it will degrade after a couple more spins.
-
did they get the record from a scratch DJ and make it the master for this release?
Noises and hum are all over 4 sides, which i am sure are not sound effects from the original recordings. -
The first half sounds okay, but the second LP begins to sound like someone recorded their speaker feed direct to vinyl while filtering it through sandpaper. How could they fuck up a large release like this?
-
Edited 7 years agomy copy seems clean over all and has good lows, highs and mids are pretty decent. compared to my digital files, the vinyl does not have as much punch but it is still a record I would play.... The vinyl also has paper sleeves, not the poly sleeves, maybe it's a newer pressing?
